Pecos electric companies

Deregulation means that you have a lot of options. TXU Energy, Payless Power, and 4Change Energy are popular choices, but there are numerous providers on the market. Look for the plan and company that truly suit your family, and if you change your mind, you always have the power to switch.

One of the more confusing aspects of deregulation is the fact that your retail power provider is not the company that actually delivers the electricity through a connection to your home. A utility company, also known as a transmission and distribution service provider, is who you need to contact to report a power outage, and it does not change regardless of who your retail power provider is. In Pecos, your transmission and distribution service areas are split among Texas New Mexico Power Co. (TNMP), Oncor, and AEP North.

To report an outage, contact whichever is your utility – it will appear on your bill.

Types of Pecos electric plans

Electricity rates in Texas, including Pecos, depend on the type of electric plan you select and how much electricity you use. Since retail providers compete for your business, you may find special offers such as free nights or weekends. In general, though, electric plans fall into one of three basic types.

  • Fixed rate: On a fixed rate plan, your electricity supply rates will remain the same for the life of the plan. Depending on how long you will stay in your home and how long you are willing to commit to a specific provider, you may choose a 12, 24, or even 36 month plan. Note that government taxes and fees may change from month to month or year to year, even though your supply rates remain the same.
  • Variable rate: A variable rate plan may be a better choice for those who need only a short term plan, as well as those who are willing to gamble on their rates. In these plans, your electricity rates vary according to wholesale energy prices.
  • No deposit: Those with excellent credit scores may not need to pay a deposit for traditional fixed rate or variable rate plans. If your credit is less than stellar, though, you likely will be asked to pay a deposit. An alternative is a pre-paid plan, in which you pay for expected service at the beginning of the billing period. You’ll have to refresh your account depending on actual usage.
