Arlington electric companies

Texas deregulated its electricity market in 2002. Since then, residents of Arlington and about 85 percent of the state have been able to shop around for electricity providers. Because it’s a part of such a large metropolitan area, Arlington has plenty of options when it comes to electricity suppliers. Some of the most popular companies include:

Keep in mind that while you can choose your own electricity supplier, the local electric utility will still deliver your electricity and maintain the electricity infrastructure. Oncor Electric Delivery is the utility that serves the Arlington area. To report an outage or for other help with your electrical service, contact Oncor:

Types of plans

There are many different types of electricity plans to choose from. When you search available rates in the Choose Texas Power marketplace, you’ll be able to select the plan that works best for you.

  • Fixed-rate plan: When you sign up for a fixed-rate electricity plan, you lock in your electricity supply rate for the entire length of your contract. Your rates don’t fluctuate with the market. As a result, you’re insulated from price increases.
  • Variable-rate plan: Unlike a fixed-rate plan, a variable-rate plan doesn’t allow you to lock in your rate. Instead, your rate each month is based on the current energy market. Your electricity bill fluctuates and could increase or decrease in any given month depending on the current market rate.
  • No-deposit plan: Some electricity plans require customers to pay a deposit, especially customers who don’t have great credit. But others offer no-deposit plans, either to customers with good credit or with no credit check at all. A prepaid plan is an example of a no-deposit plan that doesn’t require a credit check.
  • Prepaid plan: A prepaid electricity plan is a type of no-deposit plan where you pay your electricity bill upfront. You decide how much electricity you plan to use, and you plan for the full month ahead of time. Because you pay upfront, you aren’t locked into a contract.
  • Green energy plan: If you want to reduce your carbon footprint, you might prefer a green energy plan. These are becoming more and more popular, and it’s easy to find 100% renewable energy electricity plans in Texas.
