Texas electricity providers and utilities

Texas is a deregulated energy market. Deregulation means that several energy providers are competing for business, and consumers can exercise the power to choose their preferred provider. Getting the right provider for your needs will require that you compare different plans and rates. Among Texas electricity providers that you can choose from are 4Change Energy, Direct Energy, TXU Energy, and Constellation Energy.

Oncor Electric plays a different role from an energy provider. A provider buys energy from the companies that generate electricity and provides it to the consumer, while a utility takes energy from the provider and distributes it to your home through the power lines it maintains. In essence, you will buy power from a retail electric provider in Texas and not from a utility. In a deregulated energy market, consumers can choose a retail electric provider but cannot choose their utility company.

Choose Texas Power allows you to compare plans and rates from the different providers in Texas for free. Once you have selected a retail electric provider, you can sign up for a plan through our website or by phone. The Oncor electric service area is in central and west Texas, covering Dallas, Fort Worth, Killeen, Midland, and Wichita Falls, among other cities.
