The Choose Texas Power marketplace helps residents in deregulated areas explore energy providers and plans at no cost. The electricity rates on our online marketplace are all-inclusive, excluding taxes. Here’s a breakdown of how the shopping process works with Choose Texas Power: 

  1. Enter your ZIP code at the top of this page. From there, we’ll show you the electricity rates and plans available in your area.
  2. You can compare plans side-by-side and pick the one that works best for you. While searching, you can also filter by plan type, price, contract length, and more.
  3. Once you’ve found the best energy plan for your home, you can then either sign up  online or call the number on your screen to speak with an energy professional. Your new energy supplier will handle the transfer process with your utility company.

Types of plans offered by Direct Energy

Live Brighter 12

This is a fixed-rate plan with a 12-month contract. It offers different rates at 500 kWh, 1,000 kWh, or 2,000 kWh tier use, with lower rates for higher energy usage. Each fixed-rate plan includes a $135 early termination fee (ETF) if you end your contract early.

Twelve Hour Power 12

This plan offers a fixed rate for the duration of the 12-month contract. It also has different rates for three tiers of power use, but the major perk with this plan is you get free electricity every night from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Green Texas 12

This plan is a fixed-rate energy plan powered by 100% green energy for the duration of a 12-month contract. It’s one of Discount Power’s most affordable energy plans and allows you to save even more with an autopay discount. 

Free Power Weekends 12

This plan offers a fixed rate for the duration of the 12-month contract. Customers get free electricity every weekend from 6 p.m. on Friday to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

Like most providers, Direct Energy may require a deposit if your credit score doesn’t meet certain requirements. Your deposit is returned to you with interest once you’ve paid 12 consecutive on-time payments. You can also look into no-deposit plans and prepaid plans.

Will Direct Energy charge me a cancellation fee?

Direct Energy charges an early termination fee of $135 for its fixed-rate plans if you end the plan early. There is no early termination fee for variable-rate plans. You can find more information about your plan’s cancellation fee on the electricity facts label (EFL).
