Compare Rhythm Energy and Reliant Energy reviews

At Choose Texas Power, we rate and review light companies to help electric consumers find the right fit for their needs. During the review process, we focus on three categories: customer service, online accessibility, and plan options.

Customer service

When you have questions about your electric bill or plan, it should be easy to reach your provider’s customer service team and get help. To determine each electricity company’s customer service score, we consider Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) complaint scores, Google reviews, satisfaction guarantees, service cancellation options, and years in business.

In this category, Rhythm Energy scored 3.7/5, while Reliant Energy got a 4.9/5.

Rhythm Energy earned points for its friendly, helpful support team, which is available seven days a week. However, its score took a slight hit after some reviewers reported billing issues or slow responses from the Rhythm Energy team.

On the other hand, Reliant Energy earned its high customer service score due to its 24/7 online and phone support. It’s also been serving Texas electric customers for more than 25 years.

Online accessibility

Energy customers should have access to an easy-to-use payment platform, transparent pricing, and account management tools — all of which fall under the category of online accessibility. When evaluating online accessibility, Choose Texas Power reviews how easy it is to pay bills online, how clear the pricing information is, and whether there are usage alerts and tracking options.

Rhythm Energy and Reliant Energy each scored a perfect 5/5 in this category.

Both REPs offer a range of digital tools, including online bill pay. It’s also easy to check your usage and rates so that you know how much electricity you’re using each month (and how much you’re paying for it). Plus, Rhythm Energy and Reliant Energy both have helpful online resource libraries to help customers understand their plans and make smarter choices about their energy consumption.

Plan options

The best providers sell a wide variety of plans to suit different energy needs and preferences. In this category, electricity companies get high marks if they offer plans with different contract lengths, renewable energy options, and rate structures.

Rhythm Energy received 5/5 for its breadth of plan options, while Reliant Energy earned 3/5.

Rhythm Energy excels in this category for several reasons, including its different term lengths (12 to 36 months) and bill credit incentives on certain plans. Plus, all Rhythm Energy plans are 100% renewable.

Meanwhile, Reliant Energy offers fewer plan lengths (12 and 24 months) and no green energy plans on our marketplace, so it didn’t score as highly.

Reliant Energy’s top plan: Reliant Power Savings 12 Plan

Reliant Energy’s popular Reliant Power Savings 12 comes with a fixed rate that stays consistent for the entire 12-month contract. Customers also receive a $75 bill credit each month for using at least 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. If you sign up for this plan but don’t love it, Reliant Energy’s satisfaction guarantee lets you switch for free within 90 days of enrollment. Keep in mind, though: If you cancel before your contract is up, there’s a $150 early termination fee (ETF).

Rhythm Energy’s top plan: Rhythm Saver 14

The 100% renewable Rhythm Saver 14 has a 14-month contract, which is somewhat uncommon in the Texas market. It also comes with a fixed rate, so you’ll pay the same price for energy for the full contract period. As a bonus, you’ll receive a $100 bill credit if you consume at least 1,000 kWh of electricity in a billing cycle (and a $5 credit for enrolling in autopay). The ETF on this Rhythm Energy plan is $20 per month remaining on your contract.
