Texas wind energy explained
Texas tops the list for wind energy generation in the U.S., accounting for 28% of the nation’s total wind energy produced in 2024. Thanks to Texas’ thriving wind power capacity, consumers can also benefit from renewable electricity plans. Around 85% of Texans enjoy deregulated electricity options, including plans powered by wind energy. Choose Texas Power makes it easy to pick a sustainable and affordable electricity plan.
How does wind generate electricity?
Wind contains kinetic energy (the energy of motion). When wind moves across the blades of a wind turbine, it spins a rotor connected to a generator. The generator converts that movement into electricity. A wind farm collects electricity from wind turbines, then sends it to the power grid for distribution to homes and businesses.
Why renewables are a better electricity source
Renewable resources, like wind energy, are a cleaner electricity source than fossil fuels because they naturally replenish themselves and don’t release harmful emissions. Fossil fuels, such as coal and natural gas, release emissions like carbon dioxide, which contribute to air pollution and climate change.
Wind energy is especially popular because it can be generated on a large scale without producing harmful emissions. Thanks to their lower carbon footprint, renewables provide a cleaner way to power homes and businesses, while minimizing environmental impact.
