Positive reviews

“Have been a customer for the last three years. First time I have renewed with the same company that I had used. Bill Pay and Customer service are easy and great. Got a renewal that not only beat other options but also had an informative conversation with the agent. The whole experience was great!” – James Callaway

“Website was very easy to sign up for the new service. The drop-down format found my new address immediately. It only took a few minutes, and I had signed up, chose my own start of service date, and was done. Hopefully, my experience will continue to be positive!” – Brandy Ponson

“The enrollment experience of signing up for new electricity service with APG\&E was as easy as it could be. I was using one of the websites that allows you to put in your actual monthly usage over the last year. It then uses these data to calculate the projected monthly and yearly fees for all the competing companies offering electricity service in your area. APG\&E resulted in the lowest charges for the fixed plans I filtered by. Their online customer service ratings were not the best, so I will see if that becomes a problem going forward. Hopefully not!” – Richard Epstein

Negative reviews

“It may be too early to post; however, I never received a welcome email that my account has been switched from my current provider. The only way I knew anything was when my current provider sent me an email saying they were sorry that I left them. Not good communication so far. Hope it gets better.” – Sandy Aronds

“Good the first couple of months. But lately, like any other company, every month goes up for no reason. Not home during the week, only nights and weekends. One light from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. during the week. Weekends same, no light needed. We’ll see if I continue or look for some other company.” – Silvia

“I didn’t have any problems with the enrollment online, and the enrollment welcome package arrived by email quickly. My only complaint was I looked for a provider that had no early termination fee, and the plan clearly advertised no early termination fee. But when I read the welcome package, it clearly stated a fee for early termination. The introductory rate for six months is over. I called for the new rate to be offered, and the lowest rate offered was 17.5 percent higher than the rate I got 6 months earlier. They offer lower rates to new customers, but once you have been a customer, they want you to stay, but charge a rate to get you to leave. I no longer get my electric from APG\&E.” – Donald Burns

APG&E vs. other providers

APG&E has an overall 4.3 out of 5, which falls below TXU Energy’s overall 4.8 and above Direct Energy’s 4.2 score. While APG&E falls between these two well-known energy providers, it offers competitive strengths in plan options and online accessibility.

TXU Energy and Direct Energy scored significantly above APG\&E in the customer service category with a 4.9 and 4.6, respectively. Customer reviews for APG\&E often mention difficulty reaching a representative and long wait times for a response. TXU and Direct Energy both receive stronger feedback for supportive and helpful service agents.

APG\&E and Direct Energy both earned a perfect 5 out of 5 for online accessibility, while TXU earned a 4.3. All three have easy-to-use websites with online bill pay and usage tracking, but TXU’s site is slightly less transparent about pricing for some plans.

For plan options, APG\&E tied with TXU with a 5 out of 5 score for its variety of fixed-rate plans, renewable options, and term lengths. Direct Energy has more limited options, which resulted in a 3 out of 5 score.

One area where APG\&E stands out is pricing. At the time of writing, SimpleSaver 11 and 12 offer the cheapest price on our site at 8.5 cents per kWh. In comparison, TXU’s lowest price is 13.9 cents per kWh, and Direct Energy’s is 14.9 cents per kWh.
