Ruggles Green, the fast-casual restaurant chain known for healthy and local fare, is the first Certified Green Restaurant™ in Houston. This certification is awarded to restaurants by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA) for their high environmental standards and accomplishments.

Since earning recognition from the GRA and the media, Ruggles Green opened four more locations in Houston and the surrounding area – including the desirable CityCentre in 2010. This location has since received a 4-star certification from the GRA – becoming one of the few 4-star certified restaurants in the country and earning it the title Greenest Restaurant in Texas.

Serving up organic, gluten-free, vegetarian and locally grown menu items make Ruggles Green a must-visit while in Houston.

For those seeking gluten-free, dairy-free or vegetarian fare, you’re sure to find something on the menu. Want to try a dish, but it contains gluten? Some menu items can be made with different ingredients. The restaurant advises asking your server for details on making your dish sans gluten.

Some fan favorites include spicy fish tacos, fresh margherita pizza and buffalo burgers. Burgers can also be made with turkey or beef and all are served with the works: house-made pickles, red onion, mixed greens, tomato and your choice of cheese on a whole-wheat bun.

The next location opened in 2010 in the (then) newly constructed CityCentre complex in Houston. This shopping center offers 1.8 million sq. ft. of retail, restaurants and entertainment, including the Greenest Restaurant in Texas – Ruggles Green’s second location.

The last three locations opened in Sugar Land, Heights and The Woodlands to better serve the Houston suburbs.

Restaurants are judged on water efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, sustainable durable goods and building materials used, reusable and eco-friendly disposables, chemical and pollution reduction, sustainable food sources and energy efficiency.

Ruggles Green attained this award by serving local produce and all-natural meat products without hormones, antibiotics or steroids. Restaurant locations are powered by renewable wind energy – while the Heights location supplements its electricity with solar modules. Ruggles Green has also created programs that help the environment – such as composting when possible, cutting out Styrofoam, educating staff on green principles, incorporating water-saving devices and recycling cardboard.
